Lamborghini Transformer

Here is a video i stumbled upon on YouTube. It is by a user under the name of 'lestle01'. You can also find more of her work on the following blog...

This video has inspired me quite a lot as I like cars (especially the Lamborghini models) and I also like that she has made it look quite flawless. Lestle has used 3DMAX to achieve her results, but I'm sure you can achieve the same results in Maya.

Great work. Hopefully my end result will be in the lines of her work.

...Problems...

I ran into a few problems when i started modeling this part of the mouse. I restarted the side a few times until i realized that the best way to model would be if i separated it into individual objects, which is shown in the second picture.

I think that this is the most convenient way to model this project because it will transform into a robot in the end , which means there will be several different objects to animate. Robots tend to be made up of separate parts, just like a car.

...from Diary

A rough sketch of
an idea for the
robot.
The first few stages of the modelling process.

4 - 5 hours

Rough ideas of the parts of the robot.
Ideas for arms, legs and artillery.

Here I drew the logos of the programs
I will be using to create my Mouse Transformer.

I will later add more drawings, when I will use
Adobe's After Effects and Adobe Premier.

Research Transformer Robots

I wanted to gather some pictures of Transformer Robots, to get a few mental images to keep reffering to while modelling.

Some pictures I took.

The Mouse

After browsing the internet for an attractive mouse to model, i came accross the Logitech G7 Laser Mouse. The design of this mouse fit perfectly. The black version would have been really good andn it's extra lights on top would be perfect for the robot.

But, thinking about designing the mouse and previously designing other objects, I knew it would be easier to model something as close to perfect, if I had it in my hands.

So, I decided to go with my computer mouse i have at home, the Logitech Cordless MouseMan Optical. I think that this mouse will be perfect for modelling and having it in my hands to help me avhieve my results on screen.

Initial ideas

Old Trafford - My starting point. I wanted to design the whole Manchester United Stadium and use it in ActionScript as well as other programs like Adobe's After Effects to create a simple yet appealing mini-website (applet), giving information about the club and about the players. After talking to a few people, i realised that this was too big of a task for the time i had. Maybe if i was working in a group, this would be achievable. So I decided to rethink my strategy.

Realistic Car Model - My second idea was to create a Real/Life Like Car Model. After speaking to my project supervisor (Paul Honey), who showed me that this has been created before. I didn't want to do something that has already been done, so I had a longer discussion with Paul and a few ideas later came up with the following idea...

Mouse Transformer - To create a real looking computer Mouse that transforms into a robot, just like in the Transformer movies. I thought this would be very appealing if achieved at a good standard. This is also quite a challenging task, but not one that is not attainable.
