- Using the wrong lights and wondering why it is not working the way I want them to
- Positioning of the lights
I recently found great tutorials on lighting thanks to "Digital-tutors". Their tutorials helped me understand what each light did and what is the best way to use them. I had a habit of using Directional Light, but after going through these tutorials about lighting and the attributes each light has, I soon realized the lights that I needed in my scene.
In my scene I have used 3 different lights (4 Lights in total):
- 2 point lights
- 1 ambient light
- 1 spot light
Point Lights:
- I used for outside the room, for when the door opens and the light shines onto the wall.
- I used as a light in the room. I didn't model a actual light in the room because during the animation, the light will not be present.
Ambient Light:
- I used this light because, in theory, when the door closes and the lights are turned off, you can't see anything...but i didn't want this in my scene; so i created an Ambient light which is dimly lit so you can see the objects in the scene. It still gives the illusion the room light is off without it going pitch black.
Spot Light:
- I used a Spot Light for the lamp I have modeled. When the robot comes to life, the light comes on and gives a spot light effect underneath the lamp. The light switches off when the robot heads back into the mouse.
Using these combination of lights, gave me the perfect lighting I imagined my scene to have.
